Ahoy, Mateys! Celebrating a Decade of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag!

Can you believe it? It’s been a whole decade since we first sailed the open seas of the Caribbean with Edward Kenway in Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, exploring the Golden Age of Exploration! Launched on 29 October 2013, this title stole fans’ hearts and is one of the greatest open world games ever created.

Black Flag was no ordinary Assassin’s Creed game. It took the series in a daring new direction and focused heavily on naval exploration and combat. You were able to sail your own ship, the Jackdaw, and naval battles versus rival ships and forts were deeply gratifying.

But sailing alone wasn’t what made Black Flag special. The story was engaging, the characters were quirky, and for their time, the visuals were stunning. Diving into the hustle and bustle of port cities, into hidden coves, into ancient ruins felt somehow real. And what about the music!” There was some salt-on-the-waves goodness when your crew sang sea shanties during the trip (this was catchy).

By 2014, Black Flag had been a huge success, selling over 11 million copies. It won acclaim for its inventive gameplay, compelling story and gorgeous open world. It even bagged some awards including Best Action Adventure Game at the Spike VGX 2013.

Why Black Flag Still Holds Up

  • Groundbreaking Naval Combat: Black Flag’s naval combat was revolutionary for its time and still feels fresh today.
  • Compelling Story: Edward Kenway’s journey from a privateer to a master assassin is full of twists and turns.
  • Immersive World: The Caribbean setting is beautifully realized, with plenty to explore and discover.
  • Unforgettable Characters: You’ll encounter a host of iconic figures throughout your journey.
  • Amazing Soundtrack: The sea shanties are legendary!

Black Flag was one truly special game that really defined what the open-world genre can be. It’s a game every person who loves sailing, exploration or justQuality games*needs to play. So raise a glass to Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, a real classic!
