Punjab Minister for Minerals Sardar Sher Ali Gorchani has claimed that 2.8 million tola gold has been discovered in a 32-kilometer-wide area of Attock, valued between Rs600-700 billion in the global market.
This revelation comes when the Punjab government is working in collaboration with the Geological Survey of Pakistan to confirm the reserves.
The minister said an auction committee has already been constituted, headed by the deputy commissioner of Attock, and rules for the auction process would be presented before the Punjab cabinet in its next meeting for approval.
He also mentioned instances of illegal gold extraction in the region, due to which the Punjab government has issued Section 144 to put an end to the thefts. The scenario is now brought under control and no recent theft has been reported in the area.
